Terms of Service

Effective date: April 14, 2026 · Last updated: April 17, 2026

Legal notice: This document is a draft and will be finalized with attorney review before the app launches on Google Play.

1. Agreement

By accessing or using CohortHive ("App", "Service"), you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

Operator: CohortHive
Contact: CohortHive support

2. The Service

CohortHive provides a platform for users to post and discover local tasks — a bulletin-board style matching service. We facilitate connections; we are not the employer, agent, or insurer of users, and we do not supervise or direct how tasks are performed.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years of age and able to form a binding contract under applicable law. By using the Service, you represent and warrant that you meet this age requirement and that all information you provide is accurate. If we learn that a user is under 18, we may terminate their account without notice.

4. User responsibilities

You agree to:

  • Comply with applicable laws
  • Provide truthful task descriptions and pricing where you post
  • Interact respectfully with other users
  • Use the Service only for lawful purposes
  • Not harass, defraud, spam, or misuse the platform

We expect courtesy and professional distance in all interactions. Repeated harmful conduct or patterns that damage other users' experience may lead to account restrictions under these Terms and our Community Guidelines.

5. Payments between users

Important: Unless we explicitly offer a payment feature in the future, payments for tasks are arranged directly between users (cash, Venmo, etc.). We do not hold task payments in escrow.

Fees for optional app features (e.g. premium listings, subscriptions) may be charged by us or app stores as disclosed at purchase.

6. Green Badge verification fee

Green Badge identity verification is an optional paid feature with a one-time verification fee of $15 per attempt. Before payment, we show the exact amount and fee details in the app checkout flow. A portion of this fee is paid to independent third-party identity verification providers for their service, and the remaining portion supports CohortHive product development, security operations, and infrastructure improvements.

7. Badge eligibility and adjustment

  • Blue Badge requires successful phone number verification.
  • Green Badge requires successful identity verification through approved third-party verification partners.
  • Gold Badge requires a 4.9+ rating and at least 50 completed jobs.

Displayed badge status may be updated when verification data becomes invalid, a partner revokes a verification, we detect fraud, or we are required to do so by law or partner rules. Thresholds for performance-based badges (such as Gold) are defined in the product and Community Guidelines.

8. Premium boost and Pro membership

Premium boost (visibility) is optional and costs $4/boost. Pro membership costs $8/month and includes 5 boosts at $3 each per billing cycle (unused boosts do not roll over). Fees are shown before you pay. Refund rules follow the app store and applicable law unless we state otherwise.

9. In-app messages and records

For trust, safety, and dispute clarity, messages sent through CohortHive in-app chat are treated as immutable records. Users cannot edit or delete sent chat messages. You are responsible for reviewing your message before sending.

10. Content and license

You grant us a non-exclusive license to host, display, and distribute content you submit (text, images) as needed to operate the Service. You retain ownership of your content; you warrant you have rights to post it.

11. Prohibited conduct

Including but not limited to: illegal tasks, discrimination, hate, violence, sexual services where prohibited, impersonation, scraping, reverse engineering where prohibited, or circumventing security.

12. Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE". TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE DISCLAIM WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation.

13. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE ARE NOT LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR LOST PROFITS. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATING TO THE SERVICE IS LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF THE AMOUNTS YOU PAID US IN THE PAST 12 MONTHS OR $50, UNLESS THE LAW REQUIRES OTHERWISE.

This cap is the maximum aggregate amount we could owe if a claim against us succeeds to the extent permitted above; it does not mean we admit fault or that any particular claim is valid. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations; in those cases our liability is limited to the fullest extent the law allows.

14. Indemnity

You agree to defend and indemnify us against claims arising from your use of the Service, your content, or your violation of these Terms, to the extent permitted by law.

15. Termination

We may suspend or terminate access for violations or risk. You may stop using the Service at any time. Provisions that should survive (e.g. disclaimers, liability limits) will survive.

16. Disputes / governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the Operator is established, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any disputes will be resolved in the competent courts of that jurisdiction, unless applicable consumer-protection law grants you the right to bring proceedings in your country of residence.

17. Changes

We may modify these Terms. We will post updates and the "Last updated" date. Continued use may constitute acceptance as allowed by law.

19. Supplemental policies

Aligned with in-app "Usage Agreement." The mobile app shows a shorter summary; this section is the legal-aligned expansion. Attorney review recommended.

19.1 Platform role & liability

CohortHive is a neutral peer-to-peer matching platform. We do not employ, manage, or direct users. Users are independent individuals. We are not responsible for personal injury, property damage, or disputes arising from user interactions.

19.2 Safety & vetting

Users are responsible for verifying the identity and credentials of their neighbors. Exercise caution when inviting someone to your home or entering a home.

19.3 Refund policy (Premium posts)

  • Under 1 hour: If you cancel your Premium job post within 60 minutes of payment, a full refund may be issued to your original payment method (minus Google/Apple store processing fees).
  • 1 to 12 hours: Cancellations made between 1 and 12 hours may be refunded as "CohortHive Credit" to your in-app wallet.
  • After 12 hours: No refunds may be issued.

(Exact rules follow app store policies and disclosures at purchase.)

19.4 User conduct, reports & enforcement

We are not a court. Disputes between neighbors about money, quality of work, or personal conflict should be resolved between the parties or through lawful processes (including courts or agencies) where appropriate. Use in-app block or similar tools if you do not wish to interact with another user.

For allegations of serious misconduct (including harassment, violence, or theft), you should involve law enforcement or other proper authorities when the situation warrants it. If you report such matters to us, we may ask for credible documentation before we take account-level action — for example, for claims involving physical harm, a relevant police or agency report reference where available and applicable. Where a dispute is reflected in in-app chat, we may review those records as part of a good-faith investigation (see Sections 9 and 19.8).

After review, we may warn, suspend, or terminate access to the Service to protect the community, consistent with our Community Guidelines. Making false reports or abusing the reporting system may also result in enforcement action.

19.5 Location data

Your location data is used to calculate distances to nearby jobs and is not shared with third parties for marketing.

19.6 Insurance

CohortHive does not provide insurance. Users are encouraged to check their home insurance policies for coverage of domestic help or casual labor.

19.7 User-generated content (strict policies)

Users must not post obscene, pornographic, or sexually explicit content; hate speech or discrimination; illegal items (drugs, weapons, etc.); or commercial spam / MLM. Violations may result in content removal and permanent account suspension.

19.8 Platform communication (in-app messaging)

When coordinating tasks with other users, you should use CohortHive's in-app messaging when available. We do not display users' phone numbers to other users for this purpose. You must not use the Service to share phone numbers or other contact details to move conversations off-platform, except where we explicitly provide a feature and disclose it (if ever offered). This supports privacy, safety, and dispute records. We may enforce this through moderation or account action for serious or repeated attempts to circumvent the platform.
